The State Key Laboratory of Power System and Generation Equipment was approved by the National Planning Commission.

The "State Key Laboratory of Power System and Generation Equipment," relying on Tsinghua University, was approved by the National Planning Commission in 1989. On October 17, 1995, it passed the national acceptance inspection and became one of the first national key laboratories in the field of electrical engineering in China.In the comprehensive evaluation of electrical engineering disciplines nationwide, the Department of Electrical Engineering consistently ranks first in various sub-items, including discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research, and overall level.

The "State Key Laboratory of Power System Operation and Control," approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is established based on the optimization and adjustment of the original "State Key Laboratory of Power System and Generation Equipment Safety Control and Simulation," relying on Tsinghua University. It is among the first 20 benchmark national key laboratories in China.

The Changping Campus of the "State Key Laboratory of Power System Operation and Control," a national key laboratory in China, has commenced comprehensive development and construction.Tsinghua University and the Changping District Government have signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. Both parties will deepen cooperation based on Tsinghua University's Nankou National Key Laboratory Base, the Changping Research Base of Tsinghua University, and Tsinghua Chang Gung Hospital. They plan to establish the largest and most concentrated national key laboratory research base outside of Tsinghua University's main campus in Nankou Town.
