Cui Bin

​Biography

Cui Bin, Ph.D., is an associate researcher in Beijing and the director of the Electrical Division at the Tsinghua University DC Research Center. He is primarily engaged in research on DC power transmission and distribution as well as high-power power electronics technologies. He has successfully developed the world's largest-capacity ±50kV/50MW DC transformer cluster and a large-scale medium-voltage DC photovoltaic power generation system for desert-based renewable energy bases, which were recognized as major technological equipment by the National Energy Administration under its "First (Set) of Major Technical Equipment in the Energy Sector" initiative.

He has overcome key challenges in high-efficiency, high-density, and high-capacity DC transformers, including fundamental components, core technologies, and major equipment, with his work being selected for the China Association for Science and Technology's (CAST) "Leading Technology in Science and Innovation China" list. He has led and participated in over 20 national key R&D projects, published more than 50 papers, obtained over 60 Chinese invention patents, and contributed to the development of eight domestic and international standards. Notably, he spearheaded China's first industry standard for DC transformers and the world's first IEC international standard for power electronic transformers.

His achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Invention Award (First Prize), the China Electricity Council's Electric Power Innovation Award (First Prize), the Gold Medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, and the First Prize for High-Impact Papers from the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. As a mentor, he has guided students to win the Special Award in the Postgraduate Smart Power Technology Innovation Competition and has been consistently recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer by the Journal of China Electrotechnical Society for multiple years. Additionally, he has been invited to deliver over 10 international keynote speeches.
